Visit our blog next week for another Weekly update on What's Happening in Downtown Prince Albert! A parklet is a sidewalk extension that provides more space and amenities for people using the street. Usually parklets are installed on parking lanes and use parking spaces. Parklets typically extend out from the sidewalk at the level of the sidewalk to the width of the adjacent parking space.
Parklets are a great attraction. With increased foot traffic in a community, it creates a welcoming environment and fosters a sense of community. As this develops the community feels safer and more inviting. The PADBID is working with Rock Trout Cafe to create this space downtown. It is an exciting project that will lead to more forward thinking initiatives to come. Funds were dedicated to this project in the 2018 budget. A request is now before council to approve the use of the parking space for an extended period of time as well as a reduction or waiving of the fees for the parking meter for this trail project.
Carolyn Carleton the Executive Director of the PADBID was recently interview regarding the changes to the Downtown with the University of Saskatchewan purchasing the Forestry Centre building.
